LOOKING BACK

Looking back over the semester, which TWO films were your favorite ones to study? Which ONE film was your least favorite to study? No need for explanation, unless you wish to comment.

  1. Two of my favorite films to study were definitely The Bicycle Thief, and Do The Right Thing. I'd probably say that my least favorite would be Pickpocket.

  2. My favorite movies to study were The Manchurian Candidate and Do The Right Thing. I really enjoyed the guess speaker Gaspar Gonzalez and the other movie examples of the New Black Cinema era. My least favorite film to study was The Bicycle Thieves (even though it was not my least favorite movie).

  3. The two films which I liked the most were Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? and Chunking Express. I liked Rock Hunter a lot because it really highlighted the lifestyle and beliefs of the late fifties and mocked these trends. I was not a big fan of Los Olvidados.

  5. I think my two favorites were Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? and Do The Right Thing. Both of these are intense looks at American culture in two very different time periods. I think it's interesting to look at how the respective directors approached each film, and how each showed a different (almost disturbing) facet of Americana.

  6. My two favorite movies were Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? and Double Indemnity. My least favorite to study was Roshomon. I enjoyed watching Roshomon, but when discussion in class about the different story lines and how they are interwoven made the story even more confusing!

  15. Outside of Casablanca, which will undoubtedly top the list as the most recurring choice as part of the "favorite films" category, my two favorite films were Easy Rider and Breathless (although Los Olvidados could be said to be involved in a three way-tie). My least favorite film to study this semester was Rashomon.

  16. CASABLANCA WAS BY FAR THE MOST MAGICAL AND MEMORABLE. IT DEFINED CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD, AND IT WAS TRULY AN EXPERIENCE. I also liked how Spike Lee's films were incorporated as well. i would have to say my least favorite film was Easy Rider, and that's not because it was a bad film, its because i love classical hollywood, the structure, style, everything about it.

  20. Do the Right Thing and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter were the most visually pleasing and entertaining films that we watched this semester for me and I'd say Los Olvidados was the most boring.

  22. My two favorite films have to be "Breathless" and "The Bicycle Thief". I enjoy the time period and I love Avant Garde french new wave. Possessions are often taken for granted as well as a persons well being, and these films question much of what we now consider commonplace.
