If there is a topic or film that you would like us to discuss on (Thursday) the last day of class, please make a recommendation. I can't make any promises but I will try to see what comes together. All you need to do is make a brief suggestion and maybe explain why you're interested in it.

  2. I think it would be really interesting to look at the current state of the film industry, and see how the different trends and film movements we've studied this semester led to the contemporary films we see today. We could look at Hollywood generally over the past 10 years, and see what trends dominate the industry, and how globalization, technology, and the internet have affected filmmaking.

  3. City of God (yea I'm biased, that and its sister movie City of Men are my favorite films)...but I think they are great examples of how characteristics from a multitude of film theories, schools, and genres (Italian neo-realism, Third world cinema, european art-house, surrealism, new wave, transcendentalism, and the american gangster classic) can work synergistically, fashioning a stand-alone kind of film that is simultaneously a portrait and PRODUCT of the culture depicted on screen.

  4. I would also like to hear about today's film industry, what are the predominant themes of the films that are coming out today, and sort of where we are going with things. I'm interested to hear what films like The Dark Knight, Titanic/Avatar, Harry Potter, and also films like Black Swan say about the state of the industry today and where we are going. Pretty much an overview, much like we've done with every other decade, of the late 1990s-2000s and 2010s.

  5. I would love to use this time discussing upcoming summer releases. It would be interesting to see what films student/professors in the industry are excited to see. My friends sister works at a movie theater so I will be getting free tickets all summer! This means I will likely be going every night, sHo I'm going to need some suggestions. I also think we should spend sometime answering any review questions for the final exam.

  6. I would like to discuss how the film industry has evolved in the sense of directing and story telling. The films that we studied at the beginning of the semester have a much different feel than the last ones and I would interested to compare and contrast some of the more prominent ones.
